Regitz tied the program’s single-game record for caused turnovers (6), Kahler logs fifth double-digit performance in cage, Farrar logs fourth hat trick of the season
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Central Michigan Lacrosse outlasted Youngstown State, 7-6, in Mid-American Conference play Saturday afternoon at Farmers National Bank Stadium.
Â
Ava Regitz (Marietta, Ga. / Blessed Trinity) tied the program's single-game record for caused turnovers with six takeaways, five of which were tallied by halftime. Hailie Moore '23 had stood alone atop the record list since April 26, 2023.
Â
Regitz's effort was the catalyst to a dominant defensive performance for the Chippewas as they held the Penguins scoreless for the first 25-plus minutes of action—the junior defender had logged her first four caused turnovers by the time the shutout was ended.
Â
Leila Kahler (Spring Lake, Mich. / Spring Lake) stood tall in the cage for 10 saves, her fifth double-digit performance of the season, and a .625 save percentage—a career-high for a single game.
Â
The strong defensive presence was complimented by a first-half hat trick from Anna Farrar (Milton, Ga. / Cambridge), her fourth hat trick of the season. Her third goal came in the final seconds of the first half for a 5-2 advantage at intermission—a score that proved pivotal.
Â
Mia Bradley (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park) and Elyse DeFrank (Frankfort, Ill. / Lincoln-Way East) each scored once to reach the five-goal total at the break. Bradley would finish the contest with three assists for four points; Kelsey Barratt (Voorhees, N.J. / Eastern) tallied a pair on the game's second and third goals.
Â
Youngstown State scored the first three goals of the second half to level the contest, 5-5, and the dogfight was on.
Â
Isabella Bainbridge (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Northern) regained the lead with under seven minutes to play in the third quarter, marking Bradley's third assist.
Â
A full quarter went by before either team scored again: the Penguins knotted the contest, 6-6.
Â
Julia Werner (Gurnee, Ill. / Warren Township) scored the winner with 90 seconds to play as she drove from behind the goalie's right shoulder nearly 270 degrees around the crease to score from point-blank range.
Â
Central Michigan Lacrosse remains on the road next Saturday with a visit to Kent State (April 18, 1 p.m. ET). The regular season finale, and senior day, is set for April 25 (Noon ET) against Akron.
