CMU sophomore two shots back heading into final round
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Ella Zanatta shot a 1-over par 73 on Saturday to lead the Central Michigan women's golf team during the first round of the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational at Stone Ridge Golf Club.
Zanatta is one of six golfers tied for second place, two shots behind Oakland's Logan Bentley, who shot a 1-under 71 on Saturday.
Zanatta, a sophomore from Hamilton, Ont., is the defending tournament champion. She posted twin 71s for an even-par 142 total and a two-shot victory last year.
On Saturday, she made three birdies and four bogeys. Her three birdies tied for the third most in the field.
The final round of the 36-hole event is scheduled for 10 a.m. (shotgun start) on Sunday.
Zanatta led the Chippewas to a 317 team total on Saturday. They are in eighth place in the nine-team field, just five shots out of fourth place.
Host Bowling Green posted a 297 on Saturday and leads by 11 shots over second-place Detroit Mercy.
Also for the Chippewas on Saturday, Alexis McMurray posted a 5-over 77, Rachel Niskanen shot 79, Lauren Davis shot 80, Zoe Dull shot 82, Lexi Schulman posted an 83, Brooke Morris carded an 85, and Evanka Shah shot 88.
McMurray is tied for 19th, Niskanen is tied for 24th, and Davis is tied for 28th in the 58-player field.
McMurray, Davis and Shah are playing as individuals.
