Women’s Basketball Schedule Announced; Chippewas host Michigan Dec. 16

Year four under Kristin Haynie era begins Nov. 2 with MAC-Sun Belt Challenge, 18-game league slate opens Jan. 2 at Ball State
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Central Michigan Women's Basketball will host Michigan (Dec. 16) amongst a 15-game home slate for the 2026-27 season as the full schedule was announced Wednesday morning.
The Chippewas take on four members of the Big Ten in total Nov. 5 to Dec. 10, including the Wolverines: at Ohio State (Nov. 5), at Minnesota (Nov. 12), Purdue (Dec. 10).
The MAC-Sun Belt Challenge opens the regular season with a visit by, and first-time matchup with, Old Dominion. The second half of the scheduling agreement takes place on the road Feb. 6—opponent to be determined via NET rankings in January.
The home nonconference slate rounds out with Butler (Nov. 8), Valparaiso (Dec. 6), NAIA Indiana Wesleyan (Dec. 29) and an exhibition bout with IU Indianapolis, formerly IUPUI (Oct. 28).
All weeknight games will tip at 6:30 p.m., weekends at 1 p.m.—excluding the opener, which will be Hoops for Hunger XVI (Nov. 2; 11 a.m.).
The nonconference road schedule includes Saint Thomas (MN) (Nov. 24), Lindenwood (Dec. 20) and the second MAC-Sun Belt game (Feb. 6) on top of the three Big Ten stops.
The Mid-American Conference schedule opens Jan. 2 with a visit to Ball State, remains an 18-game slate despite the increase in regular-season games passed by the NCAA in the offseason (from 29 to 32). The seven league foes with home-and-home dates are as follows (CMU home dates listed first):

The CMU basketball programs have been slated to share home dates twice again in 2026-27. The Dec. 29 battle with Indiana Wesleyan will be immediately followed by the men's contest with Michigan-Dearborn; the Jan. 23 visit by Massachusetts will precede the visit from the Western Michigan men—that time is still to be determined.

The Chippewas tallied an 18-12 record overall, 12-6 in the Mid-American Conference—improvements of four and three wins, respectively.
CMU defeated a power-conference opponent for the first time since Dec. 2018 (Nov. 30 vs. Purdue), retained the Michigan MAC Trophy in sweeping in-state rivals Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan, and again was a national frontrunner in rebounding—seventh in NCAA I in rebounding margin (10.4) on the season.
