Chippewas overrun by Big East contender, 3-0; CMU opens MAC play at home Thursday, 7 p.m.

INDIANAPOLIS — Central Michigan Soccer dropped its final match of the 2026 nonconference slate Sunday afternoon, 3-0, at Butler.

The Chippewas return to Mount Pleasant Thursday night to host Buffalo (7 p.m. ET) to begin the 11-game Mid-American Conference schedule.

Ella Betzold (Essexville, Mich. / Garber) and Ella Dykstra (St. Joseph, Mich. / Saint Joseph) each nearly put CMU on the board first in the early moments of the first half.

Betzold carried a run down the right sideline and past multiple Bulldog defenders in the second minute after Dykstra recovered a loose ball in front of the Butler bench but her attempt slid just outside the left post.

Dykstra and Betzold teamed up for a give-and-go just ahead of the center line in the 17^th minute. Dykstra closed a 20-yard gap up the middle of the field, set up for a left-footed attempt inside the box but missed just wide of the post.

Jadia Kershaw (Lewis Center, Ohio / Olentangy Orange) hung in between the posts for the full 90 minutes for the seventh straight match to start the season, collected four saves.

The Chippewas sought to level the match in the 52^nd minute as Betzold evaded the Butler keeper ahead of the 18' but well wide of the left post. The angle led to a cross-field pass out of reach of a sprinting Kylee Weed (Jackson, Mich. / Northwest). The loose ball was recovered, sent ahead with a Bulldog advantage for the 2-0 margin in the 52^nd.
