Chris Calley begins his second year as Central Michigan Football’s Director of Player Personnel after serving the previous 2022 season as its Director of Football Recruiting.
As CMU’s Recruiting Coordinator in 2022, he helped sign the Mid-American Conference’s No. 1 rated recruiting class and No. 7 ranked recruiting class in the nation’s Group of 5.
A football veteran with 14 years of coaching experience, Calley joined the CMU Football staff after serving four years as the Wide Receivers Coach and Special Teams Coordinator at Wayne State University in Detroit (2018-21). As wide receivers coach, he coached NFL signee Darece Roberson and guided the Warriors’ wide receiver corps to a No. 2 ranking in the GLIAC in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns, and the school’s single-game receiving yards record in 2019. As Special Teams Coordinator, his unit ranked No. 1 in the league in kickoff returns (2019) and No. 2 in punt return yardage.
Calley’s collegiate career has also included stops at Lindenwood University in Belleville, Ill. as Special Teams Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach (2017-18), Urbana University in Urbana, Ohio as Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs Coach/Special Teams/Recruiting Coordinator (2015-17), and Wisconsin-Stevens Point as Co-Passing Game Coordinator/Wide Receivers/Special Teams Coach.
As Co-Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach at his alma mater Adrian College (2011-13), Calley guided the Bulldogs to a MIAA Championship, the NCAA Division III’s national rankings in total defense (No. 8) and passing defense (No. 5) and No. 1 rankings in the league in points allowed per game and passing yards allowed. He also served as the program’s Special Teams Coach, Recruiting Coordinator and Speed and Conditioning Coach.
A native of Detroit, Mich., Calley earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Business from Adrian College in December 2009. A four-year Adrian football letterman from 2004-08, Calley earned First Team All-MIAA honors, was named Most Valuable Defensive Back and served as a team captain in 2008.
Calley and his fiancée Abbey Pett have three children: Britton Calley (eight), Madden Calley (two), and newborn Baylor Calley.
