Kumehnnu Gwilly is in his second season at Central Michigan as a Quality Control Assistant with the Chippewas’ defense.
Gwilly joined the CMU football coaching staff after spending the first half of the 2022 year as an Assistant Weight Room Assistant at Fresno State.
A former Chippewas letterman from 2016-21, Gwilly was a versatile, all-around player as he saw action on both sides of the ball and on special teams. Over his five-year, 53-game career, he rushed for 572 yards and three touchdowns on 158 carries, caught 14 passes for 76 yards on offense and totaled 26 tackles (14 solo) with two tackles for loss on defense.
From 2016-19, he played running back and on special teams. In 2017, he ranked second on the team with 204 rushing yards and scored two touchdowns. He was named CMU’s Offensive Player of the Year in 2018 after rushing for 285 yards and a touchdown on 81 carries and catching eight passes for 39 yards. In 2020, CMU had a shortage of defensive linemen due to COVID, so he switched sides of the ball and played on the defensive line and saw action in six games, recording four tackles. As a senior in 2021, he was moved to linebacker, played there and on special teams. He started three games at linebacker and played in all 13, tallying 21 tackles.
A 2022 graduate of Central Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Gwilly is a former All-State football player who rushed for 4,175 career yards and 38 touchdowns at Utica High School.
