Mark DeBastiani was named by coach Jim McElwain to serve as CMU's linebackers coach in February, 2019.
In 2018, DeBastiani served as the defensive coordinator/linebackers coach at Alabama A&M, leading a unit that ranked second in the Southwestern Athletic Conference in points allowed and third in total yardage, continuing a long-running trend of solid defensive wherever DeBastiani has coached.
Coaching under McElwain at Florida, DeBastiani helped lead the Gators to the Southeastern Conference East Division championship and the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl in 2015.
DeBastiani-led defenses at Norfolk State annually ranked in the top 10 in total defense among Football Championship Subdivision schools, and in 2014 he was a finalist for the Coordinator of the Year Award. He enjoyed similar sustained success at Bethune-Cookman, where his defenses ranked annually at the top or among the very best in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
DeBastiani was a two-year starting center at Shepherd, from which he earned a degree in health in 1994.
