Stencel, an Oregon, Ohio native, made history in March, 2022 when he became the first five-time Mid-American Conference champion, capturing his historic title at the MAC Championships in Athens, Ohio during his final season as a Chippewa. He also garnered the Outstanding Wrestler Award at the tournament.
Stencel finished 133-36 as a Chippewa, including a 43-2 all-time against MAC foes. He won his final 37 consecutive league matches and has recorded 74 pins in his six years in a Chippewa singlet, including a redshirt season in 2016-17 and a COVID-shortened 2020-21 campaign.
He was a five-time NCAA Championships qualifier, a two-time All-American and twice earned the MAC Wrestler of the Year Award, first in 2020 and again in 2022. He is the fourth Chippewa to earn that honor multiple times.
