A prominent runner for the Chippewas in the 1980s, Bill earned All-America status in the 5,000m, setting the school record in the event with a time of 13:48.50 in 1989... won the MAC 5,000m title in 1989 and placed 10th (sixth American) at nationals that year to earn All-America status... qualified for nationals four times, including both the 5,000m and 10,000m in 1987... won the 1988 Mid-American Conference cross country individual title after finishing third in 1987... led CMU to the 1988 MAC team cross country championship and a 19th-place team finish at the NCAAs... won every cross country meet in which he raced, except nationals, during the 1988 season... competed nationally for five years following his CMU career... had four top-15 finishes at the U.S. Cross Country Championships and represented Team USA at the World Championships three times... was ranked in the nation's top five cross country runners and among the top 50 in the world... was a finalist in the 10,000m at the 1989 and 1990 U.S. Track and Field Championships and a 5,000m finalist at the 1992 Olympic trials... a native of Charlevoix, Mich., who prepped at Charlevoix High School.
