Chippewas overcame slow start for two-goal first-half lead, ran out of steam in the second half
YPSILANTI, Mich. – Central Michigan Lacrosse dropped a 14-9 decision to Eastern Michigan in Mid-American Conference play Saturday.

Sophomore Julia Werner (Gurnee, Ill. / Warren Township) recorded her second hat trick of the season in the effort, one of three multi-goal Chippewas for the day—Mia Bradley (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park) and Caye Kalbacher (Austin, Texas / Stephen F. Austin).

Leila Kahler (Spring Lake, Mich. / Spring Lake) tallied 10 saves for her fourth double-digit performance of the season, fifth of her career and led CMU with four ground balls.

Ava Regitz (Marietta, Ga. / Blessed Trinity) led the Chippewas outright with six draw controls and three caused turnovers, tied the lead among field players with Werner with three ground balls.

Central Michigan Lacrosse hosts Southern California Monday (April 6, Noon ET) before returning to the league slate next Saturday at Youngstown State (April 11, Noon ET).

The Chippewas went on a 5-1 run in the first half after falling behind, 2-0, in the first minute of action. Bradley scored both of her goals during the streak, both aided by precise passes inside from Kelsey Barratt (Voorhees, N.J. / Eastern).

The craftiest goal of the day came during the 5-1 run as Heather Delbone (Canton, Conn. / Canton) as she took a pass from Kalbacher and softly bounced her attempt over the back shoulder of the Eagles' goalie to log CMU's first lead, 4-3, with 63 seconds left in the first quarter.

Anna Farrar (Milton, Ga. / Cambridge) rounds out the CMU scorers with her strike at the seven-minute mark in the fourth quarter, preserving a share of the team's season-high in goals—15 apiece for Farrar and Kalbacher.

The Chippewas managed to overtake EMU in the second quarter despite a double-digit deficit, 11-1, on draw controls at the time with first-half advantages in saves, 8-6, and ground balls, 12-7.
