Farrar, Barratt score twice each; Kahler tallies season-high 13 saves
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan Lacrosse fell, 15-4, to Southern California Monday afternoon at the CMU Lacrosse Complex, a rebound for the Trojans who fell, 11-5, at No. 6 Northwestern Saturday afternoon in Big Ten Conference play.
Â
The Chippewas return to Mid-American Conference play with the first of two road trips to Ohio Saturday at Youngstown State (April 11, Noon ET), followed by a visit to Kent State (April 18, 1 p.m. ET) before senior day and the regular season finale against Akron (April 25, Noon ET).
Â
Anna Farrar (Milton, Ga. / Cambridge) broke the seal for CMU in the final minute of the first half with a strong drive set up by Elyse DeFrank's (Frankfort, Ill. / Lincoln-Way East) first assist of the season.
Â
The Chippewa defense held USC scoreless for 15 consecutive minutes between the 4:46 marks of the second and third quarters. Farrar netted her second goal of the day during that time to become the third on the team to reach the 20-point mark this season, assisted by Caye Kalbacher (Austin, Texas / Stephen F. Austin)—the season points leader.
Â
Leila Kahler (Spring Lake, Mich. / Spring Lake) was the catalyst for the Chippewa defense with a season-high 13 saves (.464 save percentage), one shy of her career-high of 14 set against Kent State last season. The senior goalie added a game-high, and season-high-tying, five ground balls to her line.
Â
Kelsey Barratt (Voorhees, N.J. / Eastern) scored twice in the fourth quarter to match Farrar's output. Her second goal in the final minute-plus of action was an impressive isolation drive through heavy contact for an underhand attempt in front of the crease.
Â
Barrat's first goal added an assist for Mia Bradley (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park) to keep the rookie in the hunt for the team's points lead—Kalbacher (24), Bradley (22), Farrar (20) all eclipsing 20 thus far.
