A versatile performer who excelled both on the mound and at the plate, Tom still holds two CMU baseball records - career ERA of 1.53 and ERA in a season of 0.80 (1966) ... four-year regular at shortstop, he pitched only in his final two seasons but was 11-2 and set records that have stood for 30 years ... three times he was named second team all-Interstate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) and was a first team pick in '66 after batting .388 and going 6-0 on the mound ... team captain, MVP and IIAC MVP as a senior ... named the recipient of the coveted Robert Carlson Award as CMU's top student-athlete ... drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 1967 and was named Topps minor league all-rookie shortstop the same year in '67 ... also played in the St. Louis Cardinals and San Diego Padres organizations.
