Football Falls To Ohio

ATHENS, Ohio--The Central Michigan University football team scored first against Ohio University but it was the Bobcats that scored often in a 52-3 victory on Saturday afternoon at Peden Stadium.
CMU's record falls to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in overall MAC play. Ohio is 5-3 overall and 3-2 in overall MAC action.
The Chippewas took the opening drive and put three points on the scoreboard on a 28-yard Paul Savich field goal.
CMU's lead wouldn't last long as Ohio took its first possession and scored a touchdown on a Chad Brinker seven-yard run.
The Bobcats scored two more touchdowns and a field goal to take a 24-3 halftime advantage. Quarterback Dontrell Jackson scored on a 27-yard run while Brinker scored on an 11-yard run. Kicker Kevin Kerr rounded out the first-half scoring with a 44-yard field goal.
Ohio kept up the offensive assault in the second half, scoring 28 points in the third quarter. Brinker scored his third touchdown of the day on a five-yard run, Raynald Ray scored on a 14-yard run, Keland Logan scored on a one-yard run and Wiz White scored on a 28-yard run.
The Bobcat running attack was the story of the game. Ohio had 444 yards of rushing compared to CMU's 111. Jackson led OU with 141 yards rushing on 10 carries while Brinker had 86 yards and three touchdowns.
Ohio had 507 yards of total offense while CMU had 290.
Quarterback Derrick Vickers started for CMU and was 12-of-28 for 142 yards and three interceptions. The Chippewas were led on the ground by Vince Webber who had 58 yards of rushing on 10 carries while David Hannah had five catches for 46 yards.
Central returns to Kelly/Shorts Stadium Oct. 28 to take on Ball State University. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
