Women's Soccer Upsets Miami

OXFORD, Ohio--The Central Michigan University women's soccer team (9-9 overall, 7-4 Mid-American Conference) earned the right to host an opening round game in the MAC tournament with a 3-1 win over Miami on Sunday afternoon.
With the victory, CMU has won six of its last seven and finished the conference season as one of the top-four seeds.
The Chippewas scored two first-half goals to take a 2-0 advantage. Jill Adams (St. Louis, MO/Fr.) headed the ball in from an Allison Campbell (Livonia/Jr.) cornerkick at 17:12 while Emilie VilleMonte (Farmington Hills/So.) scored at 41:02 on a lead pass from Cari VanDyck (Medina, OH/Fr.).
Miami cut the lead to one goal when Andrea Cunningham opened the second half with a goal at 61:18.
Central secured the win when Erica Peterson (Fenton/So.) scored her first goal of the season on another header from Campbell.
CMU goalie Beth Quiney (Milford/Jr.) made six saves in the winning effort while allowing the lone RedHawk goal.
The Chippewas wrap up the regular season with a non-conference battle at Detroit on Oct. 27. The MAC playoffs begin on Oct. 31 with the first round games being held at campus sites.
