Volleyball Drops Match To WMU

KALAMAZOO -- Rival Western Michigan University (17-5, 12-1 Mid-American) won its 11 straight volleyball match with a 3-0 victory over Central Michigan (14-11, 8-5 Mid-American) on Friday night in Kalamazoo.
The loss ended the Chippewas' three-match winning streak.
The MAC-leading Broncos took the match by scores of 15-11, 15-10 and 15-9.
Outside hitter Jenny Young (Plymouth/So.) recorded a team-high 14 kills and four blocks.
Senior Jennifer Mitchell (Lake Odessa) posted 12 kills and four blocks and Kristin Tack (Saginaw/Jr.) added 10 kills.
Jessica Rocho (Honolulu, Hawaii/Sr.) had 41 assists and five digs. A total of four Bronco players were in double figures in kills with Zakiya Pope posting the match high with 15.
The Chippewas recorded only 47 kills with a .153 hitting percentage while WMU notched 59 kills and a .271 hitting mark. Western added 12 team blocks compared to Central's eight.
The match drew a crowd of 1,083.
Central travels to Northern Illinois on Saturday for a MAC clash in Evans Field House.
The Chippewas have a rematch against WMU next weekend in Mount Pleasant. After the Chippewa and Bronco football teams meet in Kelly/Shorts Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m., the respective volleyball teams will play in Rose Arena at 7 p.m.
