Men's Basketball Loses To Kent

MOUNT PLEASANT -- The Central Michigan University men's basketball team (5-16 overall, 2-10 Mid-American Conference) fell by a 60-54 count to Kent State University (17-4 overall, 9-3 Mid-American Conference) on Saturday afternoon at Rose Arena.
The first half was a back and forth battle that featured five ties. Kent took a 22-19 lead with 4:11 left on a Kyrem Massey dunk but CMU's Willie Wallace scored the last four points of the half on a pair of free throws and a layup to give the Chippewas a 23-22 halftime lead.
After the two teams traded three-pointers to open the second half, Kent went on an 8-0 run to take a 34-28 lead with 17:20 to play. The Chippewas came back and tied it up at 34-34 on a three-pointer by Tim Kisner with 15:42 to play. The Golden Flashes took a 53-47 lead with 5:45 to play but the Chippewas cut the lead to 55-54 at the 3:53 mark. The Golden Flashes scored the final five points of the game to secure the win.
Chad Pleiness led the Chippewas with 21 points to mark the second time he has scored 20 or more points. He was eight-of-10 from the floor, four-of-four from the free throw line and one-of-one from the three-point line. David Webber added 10 points while Jon Borovich chipped in with seven.
Trevor Huffman led Kent with 17 points while Kyrem Massey added 12 and Andrew Mitchell 10.
The Chippewas travel to Ohio on Feb. 9.
