TOLEDO, Ohio--The University of Toledo used a strong running game to post a 41-0 win over Central Michigan University on Saturday night at the Glass Bowl.
The loss drops CMU's record to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the Mid-American Conference while Toledo improves to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the MAC.
Chester Taylor led Toledo's running game with 152 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Toledo had 311 yards rushing and 457 yards of total offense while the Rocket defense held CMU to just 43 yards on the ground and 168 yards of total offense.
The Rockets put up 17 quick points in the first quarter to take control. Taylor had a 23-yard scoring run while quarterback Tavares Bolden rushed for a five-yard score. Kicker Todd France added a 31-yard field goal in the opening quarter to round out the scoring.
The Rockets put up 14 more points in the second quarter to take a 31-0 halftime advantage. Taylor scored his second touchdown with a two-yard run and Antwon McCray had a 10-yard scoring run.
CMU held Toledo to just 10 points in the second half but the damage had already been done.
UT got a touchdown on a Bolden one-yard run in the third quarter and France booted a 41-yard field goal in the fourth.
The CMU offense could never get on track in the game. Tyrone Dalton led CMU with 33 rushing yards while Steve Messam caught five passes for 57 yards.
CMU quarterback Pete Shepherd completed nine-of-16 passes for 90 yards.
The Chippewas return to Kelly/Shorts Stadium to take on Kent State on Oct. 7 in a homecoming tilt.
