Volleyball Falls To Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind -- The defending Mid-American Conference champion and preseason favorite Ball State Cardinals (10-3, 3-0 Mid-American) were too much for Central Michigan (7-8, 2-2 Mid-American) to handle on Saturday night in Muncie, Ind.
BSU defeated the Chippewas, 15-8, 15-1, 7-15 15-5, ending CMU's modest two-match winning streak.
The Chippewa offense struggled in the first two games, hitting .063 in game one and .160 in game two. Facing elimination in game three, Central fought back to win the set while hitting .424. Central sputtered again in game four, this time with a negative .217 hitting percentage. The Chippewas had 27 hitting errors in the match.
Jenny Young (Plymouth/So.) posted 10 kills, two aces and a block solo. Jennifer Mitchell (Lake Odessa/Sr.) tied for team-high honors with 10 kills, seven digs and four block assists.
Mollie Hunter (Trenton/Fr.) tallied nine kills and four blocks. Setter Jessica Rocho (Honolulu, Hawaii) handed out 39 assists and posted a match-high 12 digs.
BSU's Megan Hammons recorded a match-high 14 kills.
The Chippewas open the home season next weekend with MAC matches against Bowling Green on Saturday, Oct. 7, and Marshall on Sunday, Oct. 8.
