Men's Basketball Posts Win Over Buffalo

MOUNT PLEASANT--David Webber went over the 1,000-point mark as Central Michigan posted an 86-77 win over Buffalo on Saturday at Rose Arena.
Webber scored a game-high 27 points to become the 18th 1,000-point scorer in CMU men's basketball history. Webber, who now has 1,011 career points, shot 8-of-18 from the field, 1-of-3 from the three-point line and 10-of-10 from the free throw line. He also added four rebounds and four assists.
With the win, CMU improves to 8-4 overall and 2-1 in the Mid-American Conference while Buffalo falls to 2-10 overall and 0-5 in the MAC.
The game started slow, with both teams struggling to score. CMU scored first on a three-pointer by Tim Kisner at the 18:34 mark and held Buffalo off the scoreboard until 15:42 when Damien Foster hit a pair of free throws to make it 3-2.
Kisner hit CMU's first three baskets - all three-pointers to give the Chippewas a 9-5 advantage with 14:37 to go in the opening half.
CMU broke the game open with a 10-2 run to jump to a 20-7 lead with 8:15 to go.
Buffalo closed the gap to three points (27-24) late in the half before CMU scored the last five points to go into the break with a 32-24 lead.
CMU hit the opening bucket of the second half to build the lead back up to double-digits. Buffalo cut the lead to four points at the 13:34 mark before CMU scored 10 straight points to regain control at 52-38.
The Bulls cut the lead down to seven points (54-47) but the Chippewas answered with six straight points to make it 60-47 with 7:38 to play.
Late in the game Buffalo cut the lead to 65-63 on a Davis Lawrence three-point bucket but CMU reeled off seven straight points to increase its lead to nine points.
The Bulls got as close as four points three times down the stretch but the Chippewas sank 5-of-6 free throws in the last minute to secure the victory.
CMU had three other players score in double digits besides Webber. Chad Pleiness had a season-high 18 points and a team-best seven rebounds.
Kisner posted 16 points to mark the fourth time this season he has scored in twin figures. He also added six assists and three steals.
Freshman Chris Kaman chipped in 12 points.
Buffalo was led by Robert Brown and Louis Campbell who each scored 18 points. Damien Foster added 17 for the Bulls.
The Chippewas travel to Western Michigan on Monday before returning to Rose Arena on Wednesday to face Ohio.
