Men's Basketball Triumphs Over Tri-State, 75-53

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Tri-State led by five points with 13:42 remaining in the game but a 17-0 run over a four and a half minute stretch allowed the Central Michigan men's basketball team to pull away with a 75-53 win in its season opener.
Tri-State hung with the Chippewas for three quarters of the game but in the end David Webber and CMU were just too much.
Webber poured in 26 points, including four three-pointers, while grabbing five rebounds, dishing out a team-high five assists and picking up three steals.
Mike Manciel added 22 points and four rebounds off the bench and Chad Pleiness added 12 points and five rebounds.
Tri-State made some big shots in the first half, connecting on six three pointers in the opening frame. The Thunder ended the game 11-of-34 from three-point land.
Central Michigan shot 59 percent in the game compared to TSU's 33 percent and the Chippewas won the battle of the boards, 32-27.
Webber's 26 points marked his 11th game of 25 or more points in his career.
Tri-State was led by Jon Cress with 17 points and Luke Amstutz with 13 points, including four three-pointers.
Central Michigan travels to Dayton on Wednesday, Nov. 21, for a 7:30 p.m., tipoff in University of Dayton Arena. Dayton defeated Toledo, 69-50, in the Flyers' opener on Sunday.
