MOUNTPLEASANT- The Central Michigan women's soccer team (10-8-1 overall, 8-4 Mid-American Conference) came up short against Big Ten foe Purdue University on Friday, 2-0.
Purdue opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Lauren Sesselmann found a wide open Courtney Coppedge, who put the ball over CMU goalkeeper Kari Alexander's head to give Purdue the lead, 1-0. Purdue extended its lead in the 83rd minute when Annette Kent headed in a rebound off the post, making it 2-0.
Alexander played in the first half facing nine shots while Elizabeth Quiney took over the goal keeping duties at the half and made seven saves for CMU.
The Chippewas return to action next Tuesday, Nov.6, when they host Marshall in a first-round MAC tournament game.The game is set to start at 2p.m.
