Men's Basketball Tops Loyola-Chicago, 79-72

MOUNT PLEASANT -- A balanced scoring attack and a strong second half guided Central Michigan to a 79-72 win over Loyola-Chicago on Sunday afternoon in Mount Pleasant.
The win was the 14th straight in Rose Arena.
All five CMU starters reached double figures with David Webber leading the way with 22 points and five rebounds.
Center Chris Kaman posted a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds for his second double dip of the season and the third of his career. He also rejected three shots.
The Chippewas trailed by three at the half, 37-34, but Loyola battled foul trouble in the second. CMU worked the ball around, shooting 61 percent in the second half while taking just 13 shots from the floor.
Loyola's foul problems allowed CMU to make 46 trips to the foul line in the game with 35 of them coming in the second half.
With 16 minutes left in the game, Central went on a 13-0 run over a four minute stretch to erase a seven-point deficit. After taking the lead, CMU never gave it up while stretching it to as many as nine points.
The Chippewas only had one field goal in the final four minutes while they went to the line 14 times over the stretch.
Chad Pleiness and Whitney Robinson each had 13 points for CMU and Mike Manciel added 12 points and six boards.
Loyola was led by 5-8 guard David Bailey and his game-high 24 points. He entered the game averaging 28.5 points per contest.
The Ramblers shot .375 from the field compared to .564 by CMU. Loyola lofted 30 three-point attempts while connecting on only six.
Tony Bowne came off the bench to score six points for the Chippewas.
CMU hits the road for two straight games, playing at George Mason in Farifax, Va., on Wednesday.
