Webber And Smith Earn MAC Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio--Central Michigan's stunning turnaround from worst to first has earned David Webber and Jay Smith recognition from the Mid-American Conference.
Webber earned MAC "Player of the Year" honors and Smith was tabbed the MAC "Coach of the Year."
Webber leads the MAC in scoring with 18.8 points a game, ranks 20th in rebounding (5.2), 11th in field goal shooting (.446), 14th in the three-pointers per game (1.88) and eighth in steals per game (1.54).
Webber was named the MAC "Player of the Week" three times during a five-week stretch.
Webber is the third Chippewa to win the award, joining Dan Roundfield (1975) and Melvin McLaughlin (1982).
Smith guided CMU to the MAC overall title and MAC West Division crown with a 20-7 overall and 14-4 conference mark. The Chippewas were 6-23 overall and 2-16 in the MAC in 1999-00.
Smith is the third CMU coach to win the award. Charlie Coles was honored in 1987 and Dick Parfitt in 1975.
