Baseball Belts Out 15 Hits In Win Over Long Island

WINTER PARK, Fla.--Central Michigan scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to record an 11-8 win over Long Island University on Friday afternoon.
Long Island held an 8-6 lead before the Chippewas exploded for four runs in the fifth to take a 10-8 advantage.
Mike Galloway opened the inning with a double and scored on a single by Brad Reid and Tom Grzywacz slammed a two RBI double. Tim Bullinger rounded out the scoring with a double to right that scored Grzywacz.
The Chippewas extended their lead to 11-8 with an unearned run in the eighth inning.
CMU pitcher Nick Zastrow held Long Island off the scoreboard for the final 4 1/3 innings to pick up the win. He gave up just five hits and struck out five in improving his record to 2-1.
LIU struck first with three runs in the top of the first inning. The Chippewas came right back with six runs in their portion of the first.
Mike Gates and Mike Galloway each drove in one run while Jason Helps and Grzywacz both had a pair of RBI in the inning.
Long Island scored three in the top of the fifth inning before the Chippewas took command of the game.
Grzywacz led the Chippewas' 15-hit attack. He hit 2-for-3 with two doubles and four RBI.
The win assured the Chippewas no worse than a share of the title in the 54th annual Baseball Week Tournament. CMU (5-7) is 4-1 in the tourney and takes on Virginia Tech on Saturday at noon.
