KALAMAZOO--Dan Horvath had Western Michigan's number in Central Michigan's 4-0 win on Friday afternoon at Hyames Field.
Horvath held the Broncos to just four hits while throwing a complete-game shutout. He struck out 10 in raising his record to 5-3.
It was a pitcher's duel through the first five innings. Horvath and Western's Kody Naylor each held the opponent in check.
The Chippewas broke the scoring drought with a pair of runs in the sixth inning.
Mike Galloway and Mike Crowley each had RBI singles to give Central the lead.
CMU added two more runs in the top of the ninth inning to extend the lead to 4-0.
Tim Bullinger had an RBI double and Mike Gates had an RBI single to round out the Chippewa scoring.
Central had 11 hits en route to the victory. Galloway went 4-for-5 with an RBI to lead the offensive attack.
Gates and Bullinger both had two hits a piece.
The win improves CMU's record to 28-15 overall and 11-6 in the Mid-American Conference while Western falls to 18-21 overall and 9-8 in the conference.
The Chippewas host Western in a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
