Baseball Posts Dramatic Win Over Toledo

MOUNT PLEASANT--Bryan Scheurer hit a two-run walk-off home run to give Central Michigan a dramatic 9-7 win over Toledo on Friday afternoon at Theunissen Stadium.
The Chippewas were trailing 7-6 going into the bottom of the ninth inning before rallying for three runs to post the victory.
Ryan Krueger, who reached base after being hit, scored the tying run on a double by Tim Bullinger. Next up was Scheurer who crushed the game-winning two-run homer.
Central had taken the early lead with a run in the first inning when Mike Galloway hit a groundout to score Scheurer.
Toledo came right back with a run in the top of the second to tie the score at 1-1.
The Chippewas took a 3-1 advantage with a pair of runs in the third inning.
Galloway had an RBI single while Mike Gates scored the other run when Brad Reid was hit with the bases loaded.
Toledo scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to take a 4-3 lead.
Central responded with three runs of its own in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Chippewas a 6-4 lead.
Scheurer and Jason Helps each had RBI singles while Scheurer scored the final run on an error.
Central's lead was short-lived as the Rockets scored three runs in the top of the ninth to take a 7-6 advantage going into the bottom of the inning.
Reliever Gavin Gillette picked up the win for the Chippewas. He gave up three hits and three runs in 1 2/3 innings to raise his record to 5-1 on the year.
Starter Dan Horvath went the first 7 1/3 innings. He gave up eight hits and four runs while striking out eight.
Scheurer led the CMU 14-hit offense. He went 3-for-6 with a home run and three RBI.
Central hosts Toledo in a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
