MAC Volleyball Poll Released

MOUNT PLEASANT-- In a poll of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) volleyball coaches, Central Michigan was picked to finish fifth this season in the MAC West Division.
The Chippewas received 25 points in the poll after finishing 15-16 last year with a 9-9 MAC mark. CMU returns six letterwinners from that team, including senior Kristin Tack (Saginaw) who averaged 2.96 kills per game.
Western Michigan was the West Division favorite with 71 points and eight first-place votes. Ball State was right behind with 67 points and five first-place votes. Northern Illinois was picked third (55 points), followed by Eastern Michigan (32), Central Michigan (25) and Toledo (23).
Bowling Green was the East Division favorite with 80 points and eight first-place votes. Miami was second with 69 points and one first-place vote, followed by Kent State (63, two first-place votes), Akron (59, two first-place votes), Ohio (51), Marshall (29) and Buffalo (13).
Ball State was tabbed to win the MAC tournament with seven votes. Western Michigan (four), Akron (one) and Kent State (one) all received votes for the postseason championship.
Central Michigan begins the 2001 campaign on August 31 at the Super 8 Invitational hosted by Eastern Illinois.
