Volleyball Grabs First Win Of Season

Mount Pleasant--The Central Michigan University (1-1, 0-0 MAC) volleyball team claimed its first victory of the season over Eastern Illinois (0-2, 0-0 Ohio Valley) in five games at the Super 8 Invitational Saturday afternoon.
Down two games to one, Eastern Illinois rallied to win game and force the Chippewas to play their second straight five-game match of the tournament. All five games were played out strong by both teams with scores within two points of each other in four of those games. The game scores were 30-28, 28-30, 30-28, 25-30 and 17-15.
Eastern out-hit CMU by 10 kills and held a 91-78 edge in digs but the difference was blocking. Liz Passen (Fishers, Ind./So.) had seven total blocks and Shaleene Glombowski (Marysville/So.) added six as Central owned a 13-7 edge in team blocks. Passen contributed 14 kills in the win. Glombowski moved the ball around to collect a career-high 60 assists. She also grabbed 14 digs.
Emily Lovejoy (Traverse City/Fr.) recorded second straight double-double with a match-high 21 kills and 16 digs. She also posted three aces and three total blocks. Susie Smith (Kalamazoo/Jr.) flirted with a double-double with nine kills and 11 digs.
Four Panthers had double figures in the kill column. Three of those four recorded double-doubles including two freshmen.
