MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan University women's soccer team fell to Bowling Green, 2-0, in Mount Pleasant on Friday afternoon.
CMU falls to 4-5-3 overall and 3-3-2 in the Mid-American Conference. The Falcons improve to 7-6-1 on the season and 5-3-0 in conference play.
Both teams played a tightly-contested first half. CMU had two shots on goal in the first stanza while BGSU recorded one. However, the Falcon offense awoke in the final 45 minutes. Two of their three shots on goal ended up in the net. Kristy Coppes broke the scoreless tie in the 46th minute. She got a lead pass from Samantha Meister and Coppes completed the play, firing the shot past CMU goalkeeper Kari Alexander (Midland/Jr.).
Meister struck again in the 81st minute, this time with the insurance goal. Katie Piening found Meister wide on the right side. Meister sealed the deal when she hit a bomb that found the upper-left corner.
CMU created numerous chances to claw its way back in the game but Falcon netminder Erika Flanders was solid between the pipes. She saw 12 Chippewa shots and turned aside all four shots on goal. Flanders now has a MAC-leading five shutouts
The Chippews return to action at the CMU Soccer Field on Sunday, October 13. They host the Toledo Rockets at 1 p.m.
