MOUNT PLEASANT-- Shaleene Glombowski (Marysville/Jr.) was named the AVCA/Sports Imports Division I "National Player of the Week" for the week of October 14.
"I am very proud of Shaleene," said head coach Elaine Piha. "This recognition is a huge compliment to her, the team, and the university. She has been asked to do a lot on this team and this gives her the attention she deserves.
"The team should be proud too. We are passing well which puts Shaleene in a good position to make great choices," said Piha.
The junior led the Chippewas to three wins, including key conference victories over Toledo and Ohio. CMU posted a non-conference win over Oakland. For the week, Glombowski averaged 14.10 assists per game, more than two assists over her season average. She also added 2.00 digs, 1.30 kills, and 0.90 blocks per game while hitting a .462 composite (13-1-26).
Glombowski fueled the CMU offense to hit .295 on the week, well above its .206 season average.
Glombowski opened the week posting 49 assists in a CMU sweep of Oakland, and followed that outing with back-to-back 46-assist performances to give the Chippewas their first three-match win streak since the 2000 season.
She nailed seven kills (.583 hitting percentage), picked up 11 digs and had five blocks in a 3-1 win over Toledo. She hit .500 (6-1-10), and collected eight digs and three blocks while leading her squad to hit .310 in a sweep over Ohio.
The Chippewas play at Buffalo and Kent State on October 20 and 21, respectively. CMU is home on October 25 and 26 against Bowling Green and defending MAC champion, Northern Illinois.
