Northern Illinois Rolls To 49-0 Win

DeKALB, Ill. - Northern Illinois University dominated the entire game here Saturday afternoon in rolling to a 49-0 Mid-American Conference win over Central Michigan University.
The Huskies are now 5-3 for the season and 4-0 in MAC action. The Chippewas, meanwhile slipped to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play. CMU has now lost four in a row.
NIU rolled to a 14-0 lead after one period and moved it to a 21-0 lead at the break before scoring 14 points in each of the final two periods for the lopsided win.
"There's very little we can take from this game," CMU head coach Mike DeBord said. "We didn't do anything the whole game. I really thought we'd be able to take Northern to the fourth period.
"For me, it's the most frustrating loss we've had because a definite step back. We felt we had made strides. It's a slap in the face, and it hurts right now."
It doesn't get any easier for the Chippewas with Marshall University coming to Kelly/Shorts Stadium next Saturday for a MAC battle at 1 p.m.
*NIU finished with an edge in total offense, 388-170.
*CMU had four first downs in the first period, and just two the rest of the game.
*The Chippewas went 45 yards on a pass from Derrick Vickers to Robbie Mixon on the first play of the game, and amassed only 125 yards the rest of the game.
*CMU lost three fumbles and an interception while the Huskies had two turnovers.
*NIU's Michael Turner rushed for 165 yards and three TDs on 31 carries.
*CMU's Robbie Mixon had 31 yards in 14 carries and was also the top receiver with four for 56 yards.
*The Chippewas had six QB sacks, including Matt Wohlegemuth's fifth of the season for minus 12 yards.*CMU linebacker Jovan Clarke had 11 tackles, four of them for losses of 17 yards and one a QB sack for minus seven.
*CMU's block-kicking specialist James King picked up the 10th of his career and second of the season with a blocked punt; he had a blocked extra point earlier this season.
*The Chippewas went with backup Grant Arnoldink at QB in the second half after Vickers completed seven-of-19 in the first half; Arnoldink hit on five-of-eight passes for 41 yards.
*Jacob Brown caught his first two passes of the season for CMU for 15 yards.
