MOUNT PLEASANT -- Two days removed from knocking off the Mid-American Conference's top team, the Central Michigan University women's soccer team handed the MAC's No. 2 team only its second conference loss. CMU topped Ball State on Sunday afternoon, 2-1.
The Chippewas are 3-2-2 in the MAC and own a 4-3-3 overall mark. Ball State slips to 9-3-0 overall and 6-2-0 in the MAC.
Olina Vidarsdottir (Grindavik, Iceland/So.) stepped up for the second straight game. She tallied the game-winning goal in the second half and set up CMU's first score in the opening stanza.
Vidarsdottir tallied the game-winner in the 57th minute of play, flying across the crease to head in Erica Peterson's (Fenton/Sr.) throw in. Vidarsdottir helped the Chippewas break the scoreless tie earlier in the first half when Cari VanDyck (Medina, Ohio/Jr.) picked the ball out of the air to head in Vidarsdottir's cornerkick.
Ball State created numerous chances to keep pace with the Chippewas and even knotted the game at one before the half. Brenda Skoczelas tied it at one when she picked up the lose ball and put it in the back of the net in the 41st minute. Ehren Reagor picked up the assist on the cornerkick.
Kari Alexander (Midland/Jr.) got the nod in net and saw four shots on goal. She made three saves on the afternoon.
The Chippewas return to action on homecoming weekend. CMU hosts Bowling Green on Friday, October 11. The match at the CMU Soccer Field is set for 3 p.m.
