Western Michigan Ends Kelly/Shorts Losing Streak, 35-10

MOUNT PLEASANT - Western Michigan University ended a losing streak at Central Michigan University's Kelly/Shorts Stadium with a convincing 35-10 Mid-American Conference football win here Saturday.
It marked the first time since 1973 WMU had won in Mount Pleasant, and the Broncos did it in dominating fashion
WMU finished with a 373-159 edge in total offense despite turning the ball over four times to one for the Chippewas.
It was the season finale for both teams. The Broncos end with a 4-8 overall mark, 3-5 in MAC play. The Chippewas close at 4-8 and 2-6.
Following are some notes on the game: *WMU held a 17-3 lead at the half, thanks to 271 yards in total offense compared to 77 for the Chippewas.
*CMU's lone TD was set up on a fumble recovery by James King that was returned to the Bronco 25 in the fourth period; Terrence Jackson took it in from the one after Derrick Vickers combined with Tory Humphrey on a 24-yard pass play.
*CMU's Dante McKnight intercepted two Bronco aerials, matching 25 other Chippewas for second-best in a game in school annals.
*CMU's James King picked off his fourth interception of the season.
*WMU's Trovon Riley rushed 27 times for 109 and two TDs.
*QB Chad Munson picked apart the Chippewa defense for 221 yards on 20-of-31 passes, 201 yards in the first half; he had three passes intercepted.
*WMU's Jason Babin had six tackles for losses of 27 yards; he set the Bronco school record for TFL in a season at 29.
*Chippewa senior Jovan Clarke finished with 16 tackles, two for losses of five yards in his final game; his 20 TFL moved him into a tie for third all-time for CMU; his 35 career TFL are sixth best.
*CMU used three quarterbacks, starting redshirt freshman Kent Smith, followed by junior Derrick Vickers and senior Derek Gorney; the three combined for eight-of-28 for just 77 yards.
*The two teams exchanged field goals in the first period, CMU's Mike Gruzwalski tying it with a 29-yarder; it was his 14th of the season, tied for fifth best in one year.
