Can you name the only player on this year's men's basketball team that is not from the state of Michigan? If you said, "Adam Dentlinger," you are right.
Dentlinger is the only non-Michigander on the Chippewa team. He's from Arcadia, Iowa and went to high school at Kuemper Catholic. Adam starred in both football and basketball there, earning all state honors in both sports.
Although Adam was a talented football player, he always enjoyed basketball the most. "I like the pace of the game better," he said. "It seems like the crowd gets into the basketball games more so than football, in high school anyway."
Dentlinger's family was always active in sports. His older brother, Nick, played college basketball at Buena Vista University in Iowa, and his two older sisters played sports as well.
For the past two seasons, Dentlinger has had the opportunity to return to his home state to play in front of his family and friends. Last season, CMU defeated Drake in Des Moines and this year, the Chippewas traveled to Cedar Falls before being "rained out" (condensation on the floor forced the cancellation of the game) against Northern Iowa. "It's been a fun experience to go home each year," Dentlinger said.
This year has been a great learning experience for Adam. "I'm just trying to play hard everyday and learn from all the different game-time situations," Dentlinger said. "It's nice to be able to learn the system from some of the older guys on the team, who have been through the wars of a championship season." With a MAC championship ring on his finger, Adam has taken last year's experience along with this year's, in hopes of contributing in anyway possible throughout his career.
Adam's major is management information systems, and has hopes to work with computers throughout his life.
"I enjoy working with the newest technology," Dentlinger said.
One of Adam's main hobbies is his passion for foreign languages, more specifically Spanish. He taught Spanish at a local high school last summer. In high school, Dentlinger was the Spanish Club President, along with being a National Honor Society member.
