MOUNT PLEASANT -- Central Michigan University men's basketball coach Jay Smith announced the signing of 6-9, 195-pound forward Corey Hallett (Shelburne, Nova Scotia) to a national letter-of-intent.
"We're excited that Corey will be a part of our basketball family," Smith said. "He has great attitude, along with athletic ability and quickness. He's a good passer and will give us depth on the front line. Corey will have to make adjustments to the college game but he will be a contributor for us next season."
Hallett averaged 32.8 points, 20.2 rebounds, 5.9 blocks, 4.3 assists and 3.5 steals per game in leading Shelburne Regional High School to a 35-4 record and the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Division 2 provincial championship. He shot 62 percent from the floor and 77 percent from the free throw line.
He was a member of the Nova Scotia Junior Men's Team for two years, played on the National Junior Tournament championship team and participated in the Canada Games as a member of team Nova Scotia. Hallett scored 2,930 points in his three-year senior high school career.
Hallett joins CMU's early signees on the Chippewa roster next season -- 5-6 guard Joe Carr (Detroit/Renaissance), 6-3 guard Kevin Nelson (Southfield/Detroit Country Day) and 6-7 forward Brandon Voorhees (Grandville/Tri-unity Christian).
