Chippewas Fall to Saginaw Valley, 8-6

MOUNT PLEASANT - Saginaw Valley State University posted an 8-6 non-conference win over Central Michigan University here Monday afternoon.
The Cardinals are now 32-9 and CMU falls to 21-20.
The Cardinals drew first blood with an unearned run in the second but CMU came right back to tie it in the bottom of the second when Jason Cairns doubled to left, went to third on Bud Mittleman's single and scored on a single by Jim Geldhof.
Saginaw Valley regained the lead in the third, 2-1, on a two-out double by Adam Piggott and upped it to 5-1 with three more in the fourth on three hits. The Cardinals upped it to 6-1 with an unearned run in the fifth.
Central Michigan scored one in the fifth on a single by Dan Griesbaum to cut the margin to 6-2 and then made it 6-3 in the sixth when Tim Bullinger had a pinch double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Krueger.
The Chippewas drew within one, 7-6, in the bottom of the eighth when Bullinger singled, Ryan Krueger was hit by a pitch and Danny Gibbons smashed a three-run homer down the line in right.
However, Mike Condon slugged a solo homer in the top of the eighth for the final 8-6 margin.
The starter and loser for Central was Ryan Cremeans (1-2). Joey Fahndrich hurled two innings, allowing just one unearned run while David LeMieux hurled one scoreless inning.
Central Michigan plays at Chicago State on Tuesday (2 p.m.) and then hosts Michigan State on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
