Bloomington, Ind.--The Central Michigan volleyball team (3-8 overall) lost to the Cardinals of Louisville in three games on Saturday morning in the IU Credit Union Classic. The game scores were 19-30, 21-30, and 21-30.
CMU took a time-out in game one as the Cardinals took a commanding 6-0 lead. UL committed a hitting error to put the Chippewas on the board. Defensive errors haunted Central while the tall offense of UL kept firing away.
Both teams notched 15 kills in game one, but UL nailed a .464 hitting percentage to CMU's .158 hitting percentage.
Game two started off more evenly matched as CMU took a 6-5 lead. At 9-9, the Cardinals began to run away with the lead scoring five consecutive points. Central kept plugging away but the Louisville offense dominated. The Cardinals pounded 19 kills with four errors on 34 attempts for a .441 hitting percentage. CMU had a .263 hitting percentage (13-3-38).
Emily Lovejoy (Traverse City/So.) totaled eight kills in game two while junior Melissa Reynolds (Port Huron) added seven.
Game three resembled game two. CMU kept chipping away at the Louisville defense but couldn't put the ball away as effectively as UL. Blocking and defensive errors hurt the Chippewas and resulted in a three-game sweep.
For the match, Central totaled a .176 to UL's .379.

Ali McCrite (New Albany, Ind./Fr.) picked up 10 digs at the libero position.
