KENT, Ohio -- For the third straight time, the Central Michigan University women's soccer team posted a 2-2 tie. It's latest, a 2-2 tally against Kent State in Kent, Ohio, this afternoon.
The Chippewas are now 1-3-3 on the season and sport a 0-1-2 mark in Mid-American Conference play. The Chippewas started the string of ties at Wright State last Sunday, and continued it with ties against Buffalo on Saturday and Kent State this afternoon. All three games were by scores of 2-2.
Kari Alexander (Midland/Jr.) came up big in goal for CMU again. She faced 27 shots and turned aside nine of the 11 that were fired on goal. Two of her nine saves came in the extra sessions, one in each overtime. CMU had one scoring chance in the second overtime, but the Golden Flashes' netminder, Lindsay Mitchell, chalked it up as one of her five saves.
The Chippewas got on the board first when Olina Vidarsdottir (Grindavik, Iceland/So.) found the back of the net at the 20:45 mark. Kent State matched Vidarsdottir unassisted goal in the 44th minute and the two teams went into the half tied, 1-1.
CMU was able to recapture the lead when Sabrina Borgquist (West Bloomfield/Sr.) set up Jennifer Williamson (Midland/Jr.) in the 51st minute. But, KSU tied it up with three minutes left in the match when Bethany Sanker slipped one past Alexander.
The Chippewas return home on Friday, September 27, when they host MAC rival Western Michigan. The game is slated to start at 4 p.m.
