Women's Soccer Snags First MAC Win

MOUNT PLEASANT -- The Central Michigan University women's soccer team broke its streak of three straight 2-2 ties by topping Mid-American Conference rival Western Michigan on Friday afternoon, 1-0. It was CMU's first MAC win on the season.
The Chippewas now improve to 2-3-3 over all and are1-1-2 in the conference.
Olina Vidarsdottir (Grindavik, Iceland/So.) was the difference in the game as she broke the scoreless tie late in the second half. Vidarsdottir picked up the bouncing ball in the penalty box and snuck it past Western's goalkeeper, Kate Perz, at the 77:08 mark. Lisa Taube (Brighton/So.) picked up the assist on the free kick.
CMU's offense rifled 18 shots, eight of which were on net. On the other end, Kari Alexander (Midland/Jr.) picked up her first shutout on the season. She saw Western fire 11 shots at her, three of them on net. It was Alexander's sixth career shutout.
The Chippewas host the Northern Illinois Huskies this Sunday, September 29, at 1 p.m.
