Volleyball Picks Up First Win Of Season

Carbondale, Ill.--The Central Michigan University volleyball team (1-5) defeated Murray State in five games on Saturday night. The win closed out a three-match tournament at the Saluki/Best Inns Invitational for CMU. The game scores were 26-30, 30-28, 28-30, 30-27, and 15-12.
In the five-game defensive battle, four players from CMU and five players from MSU posted double-digits in the dig column. Emily Lovejoy (Traverse City/So.), Ali McCrite (New Albany, Ind./Fr.), and MSU's Chrissy Dabbert tied for a match-high 19 digs. Lovejoy led the Chippewa offense and smashed 21 kills for a double-double. She tallied a .315 hitting percentage in the match.
Both teams put up seven total team blocks.
Liz Passen (Fishers, Ind./Jr.) nailed 17 kills with two errors on 34 attempts for a .441 hitting percentage. She also picked up three block assists. Leslie Schroeder (McComb, Ohio) played in three games for CMU and had six kills while Tamara Fant (New Baltimore/Fr.) saw action in four games and picked up 12 kills and three block assists.
Jaimeson Whitman (Midland/Fr.) handled setting duties for all five games. She dished out 63 assists and totaled 11 digs and four aces.
MSU's offense posted 65 kills to CMU's 72. Freshman setter Nikki Wong tallied Murray State's first ever triple-double in volleyball with 15 kills, 37 assists, and 15 digs. Paige Sun nailed a match-high 25 kills while Sara Schmitt had 13.
Central heads to the Raider Challenge this weekend. The Chippewas will take on host Wright State, Cincinnati, and Austin Peay.
