Chippewas Pounce On Bobcats In Overtime

MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan University soccer team rallied in overtime to score another come-from-behind win in Mount Pleasant this afternoon. CMU edged the Ohio Bobcats, 2-1.
The Chippewas are now 6-4-2 overall and improve to 4-3-1 in Mid-American Conference play. Ohio's mark slips to 4-8-1 in all games and to 2-4-1 in MAC action.
It was Cari VanDyck who made short order of overtime and lifted the Chippewas to a key MAC victory. Ashleigh Burke trapped a cross in first minute of overtime. But, she lost the ball in a scramble in front of OU netminder Melissa Parra. VanDyck picked it up and hit a bomb into the net for the win after 1:16 of overtime.
CMU had to score two unanswered goals to score the win. After trailing 1-0 at the half, the Chippewas rallied and finally found the net at the 47:50 mark. After a flurry of action in from of the OU net, Burke slipped it past Parra to knot the game at one. It was Burke's first collegiate goal.
OU broke the scoreless tie in the first. Kendra Hornschemeier received a pass behind the defense and went far side to get it by CMU backstop Anne Decker.
Decker stood tall in net. She made many quality saves late in the match to keep the match tied. The freshman finished with six saves and allowed only one goal.
The Chippewas rifled 12 shots on the afternoon. Seven of them landed on Parra of which she made five saves.
CMU returns to action when it hosts its final home game on Sunday, October 12. The Chippewas will send off their seniors prior to the Marshall game which starts at 1 p.m.
