ATHENS, Ohio - The Central Michigan University volleyball team (7-11, 2-4 Mid-American Conference) had its two-game win streak stopped by No. 32 (USA Today/AVCA Poll) Ohio on Sunday afternoon, 3-0.
It is the first time that the Chippewas have been held without a game win since a 3-0 loss to Michigan on Sept. 20. The win improved the Bobcats school-record win streak to 12.
The Bobcats dominated game one as they quickly jumped out to a 5-0 lead and were up 10-5 when they put the game away. Ohio doubled its lead with a 5-0 run, sparked by two kills from Holly Schetzsle(Pataskala). With the score at 20-9, the Bobcats ended the game with a 10-0 run.
Game two was closely contested with 11 ties, the latest at 21-21. The Chippewas then allowed a 6-0 run that put the game out of reach. Ohio eventually put the game away 30-23.
Game three was closely contested as well. The score was tied at 25-25 when both teams exchanged points and forced extra play as neither team could get the two-point win margin.
The Bobcats had five chances to get the final point but the Chippewas battled and got the score to game point at 33-32. Ohio was able to tie the score on an error by CMU. With the score tied at 34-34, Ohio took the game and the match with two straight kills from Lindsay Judice.
The Chippewas were led once again by Emily Lovejoy. She led the team in kills for the second straight match, notching 16 this afternoon.
CMU was done in by a .120 hitting percentage and 28 hitting errors. They also had 11 service errors in three games.
The Chippewas will welcome Eastern Michigan to Rose Arena on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m.
