Soccer Falls In Nonconference Battle

ANN ARBOR - The Michigan Wolverines got a late goal in the second half and scored a shutout over the Central Michigan University women's soccer team on Sunday afternoon, 1-0.
The Chippewas are now 7-6-2 on the season while Michigan ups to 5-5-6.
Stephanie Boyles provided all the offense that the home team would need. She netted a goal at the 68:49 mark to put Michigan on the board. Boyles received a pass off of a restart and headed the ball past Chippewa netminder Kari Alexander for what turned out to be the game-winner.
The Michigan offense turned it up a notch in the second half. After registering only four shots in the first half, the Wolverines launched 15 shots towards the Chippewas in the second 45. The Maize and Blue finished with only four shots on net, all in the second stanza. CMU, on the other hand, fired three shots in each half. The Chippewas had four shots land on net in the second half.
Megan Tuura and Suzie Grech teamed up for the combined shutout. Tuura played 45:05 of the match and Grech stepped in for the remaining 44:54.
Anne Decker got the start in net and played only the first half. She saw four shots but was uncontested in net. Alexander stepped in at the half and made three saves, allowing one goal.
CMU returns to action on Friday, October 24. The Chippewas have a road date with Northern Illinois set for 3 p.m. (CDT).
