MOUNT PLEASANT -- On the court they dish out assists to their teammates, but last Thursday, the Chippewa men's basketball team dished out hot dogs and hamburgers to Central Michigan University students and staff.
The team held its second annual Chip Dog Day and the players and coaches cooked and served over 400 hotdogs and hamburgers to the public in front of the Bovee University Center during lunch time.
Point guard T.J. Meerman and teammate Jeff Bohnhoff were among the players handing out out free food last Thursday. |
"This was another outstanding event for CMU Athletics," said assistant athletic director Nick Williams. "Our men's basketball team is committed to being an active part of the CMU campus and the Mount Pleasant community and that made the day a huge success. This is just one small way that our men's basketball program can thank the CMU campus for its continued support and give something back to the students and staff."
The Chippewas opened the 2003-04 season with the first official practice last Saturday.
CMU will play its 100th season of basketball this year and special events will continue throughout the year. The Maroon and Gold open the season at the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational on Monday, Nov. 24, against Dayton. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2 at 5 p.m. CMU's home opener is set for Sunday, Nov. 30, against Marist.
