KALAMAZOO - The Central Michigan University soccer team fell in its final Mid-American Conference match this afternoon, losing to Western Michigan, 4-1.
The Chippewas (8-7-2, 6-5-1 MAC) solidified a MAC tournament berth when it topped Northern Illinois on Friday. However, CMU, who entered the match tied for fifth, could have snagged fourth-place from WMU (9-7-1, 8-4-0 MAC) and a right to host a first-round match. The complete playoff seeding will be set early this week.
The Broncos struck early and often in the first half. They launched four shots on goal, three of which went in the net. Chantal Robinson scored in the first four minutes but CMU responded when Alison Heydorn scored in the 26th minute.
But, that was all the Chippewas had, offensively, as WMU rattled off three straight goals. Robinson struck again at the 31:53 mark, which proved to be the match-winner.
Western took a 3-1 lead into the half.
The Chippewas finish the regular season on Nov. 1 when they play at Loyola-Chicago. CMU will then begin MAC tournament play on Nov. 4.
