Soccer Picks Up Third Straight Win

NORMAL, Ill. -- The Central Michigan University soccer team bagged its third overtime victory for the season when it topped Illinois State on a penalty kick Friday afternoon, 1-0.
Today's game marked the fifth overtime game for the season. The Chippewas have yet to lose an overtime game this year. They are 3-0-2 in games that aren't settled in regulation.
With the win, CMU ups to 5-3-2 overall. The Redbirds stumble to 4-4-2 on the year.
Stacy Downing tallied her fourth goal for the year, her second game-winner, when she scored a penalty kick in the 95th minute of play.
Anne Decker was a solid backstop in net. She faced 11 ISU shots, four of which landed on net. She turned aside all shots on goal. It is the freshman netminder's third shutout this year.
The Chippewas finished the game with 12 shots and fired four of them on net. Allison Farrington played 45 minutes and made one save for ISU. Andrea Shaw came in and played 55 minutes. She made three saves and allowed the game-winner. Shaw takes the loss.
CMU returns to its Mid-American Conference slate when it hosts Eastern Michigan on Sunday, October 5. Kickoff at the CMU Soccer Complex is set for 1 p.m.
