CLEVELAND, OHIO - The Mid-American Conference released its preseason volleyball coaches poll on Tuesday and Ohio and Ball State were picked to win their respective divisions.
The Cardinals were also picked to repeat as tournament champions.
The preseason poll format changed this year and only the top three teams in each division were announced.
Picked second, behind Ball State, in the West Division was Western Michigan followed by Northern Illinois. In the East Division, Akron is second followed by Kent State.
The conference tournament has undergone some major changes this season and will mimic the format used for the men's and women's basketball tournament. For the first time in league history, all 13 volleyball teams will participate. The top three seeds will receive first-round byes, the two divisional winners and the team with the next best overall winning percentage. First-round matches will take place on campus sites and the eight remaining teams will advance to Muncie, Ind., where the quarterfinals through the finals will be held.
Central Michigan University kicks off the season by hosting the Super 8 Classic on August 29-30. The Chippewas open MAC play at Akron on September 26.
