BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Central Michigan University soccer team came back on the Bowling Green State University Falcons twice on Friday afternoon. But, neither team came up with the game-winner as the two teams settled for a 2-2 draw in Mid-American Conference action.
The Chippewas are 1-1-2 for the season and are 0-0-1 in MAC play. Bowling Green remains winless for the season at 0-4-1 and is 0-1-1 in conference action.
Stacy Downing had another three-point match. The Carmel, Ind., native had a goal and an assist in the second half. She evened the score at one apiece at the 60:39 mark with some help from Jill Adams and Jacqui Lorenzo.
Downing struck again when she helped set up Rachel Snyder in the 82nd minute. Snyder's score knotted the game at 2-2. Cari VanDyck got an assist on the play as well.
It was the second straight three-point outing for Downing. The crafty forward had the match-tying goal and set up the match-winner in overtime against Cincinnati last weekend. VanDyck has a two-game point streak as well, having tallied a helper at Cincy also.
BGSU took a 1-0 lead into the half on Carrie Richard's tally in the 11th minute of play. Samantha Meister responded to Downing's goal at 65:48 to give the Falcons their second lead of the game, 2-1.
Both goalies saw their share of action between the pipes. For CMU, Kari Alexander got the nod in net and faced 15 Falcon shots, 10 of which were on net. Alexander made eight saves.
On the other side, Ali Shingler saw 13 shots, making six saves. Adams led the Chippewas with three shots for the afternoon.
The Chippewas return to the soccer field Sunday, September 14, when they play at Toledo. Match time for the conference tilt is set for 1 p.m.
