MOUNT PLEASANT -- It only took 17 seconds to get the ball rolling and the Central Michigan University soccer team never looked back.
The Chippewas bagged a 3-0 win over Buffalo on Friday afternoon for their first MAC win on the season. The Chippewas improve to 2-2-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the MAC. Buffalo stumbles to 5-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in league play.
Stacy Downing got the scoring started, and fast. The crafty forward snuck in behind the defense off the opening kick and put the ball in the net in the first 17 seconds of play. It was the fastest goal to start a match in CMU history and gave the Chippewas a quick 1-0 lead.
Downing had another three-point afternoon as she helped set up the team's second goal as well. Downing found Rachel Snyder in front of the net at the 22:02 mark of the game. After pushing the ball upfield, Downing hit Snyder in the penalty who rifled it past Buffalo netminder Anna-Lesa Calvert.
Jacquie Lacek completed the scoring off of Jacqui Lorenzo's cornerkick at the 27:20 mark. It was Lacek's first collegiate goal.
Freshman Anne Decker notched her first career shutout and her first career win. It was only her second start in net. She made 12 saves as the Bulls rifled 21 shots for the match.
The Chippewa season continues when they host Kent State on Sunday, September 21. Match time at the CMU Soccer Complex is set for 1 p.m.
