Field Hockey Beats Miami, 6-1

The Central Michigan University field hockey team (2-5, 1-1 Mid-American Conference) won its first MAC match of the season Sunday afternoon with a victory over Miami, 6-1.
Five different players scored goals for CMU with Kristy Reed (South Wales, N.Y./Jr.) scoring twice. The other player scoring goals were Allison Foland (Springfield, Va./Sr.), Erica Takach (Duncannon, Pa./So.), Tarah Trottier (Kitchener, Ont./Sr.), and Alicia Balanesi (Hanover, Pa./Fr.). Reed and Foland had two assists in the match, while Kim Ferris (St. Louis, Mo./So.) and Michelle Fogle (Columbus, Ohio/Jr.) each had one assist in the contest.
Allison Foland opened the scoring in the match with a goal at the 10:09 mark. She took a pass from reed and one-timed it into the goal. Kristy Reed was credited with an assist on the play. Miami tied the game at one with a goal at 24:05 when Angie Snedden scored off a penalty shot.
CMU answer only 24 seconds later with a goal by Tarah Trottier, the first of five unanswered CMU goals. The goal was assisted by Reed and is Trottiers team-leading fifth of the season. Erica Takach scored at the 40:25 mark with an unassisted goal.
Kristy Reed then scored two goals in a row, at 58:07 off a penalty corner, and at 64:03 over a pass from Foland. Assisting on both goals was Foland and assisting on the first goal was Michelle Fogle. CMU's last goal of the game came with 47 seconds left in the game when Alicia Balanesi scored with an assist to Kim Ferris.
Laura Plese (Lindenhurst, Ill./Sr.) played the whole game in net for CMU. She made two saves while allowing only one goal.
CMU returns to action this Thursday, Oct. 2, when the Chippewas play their first home game of the season against Kent State. The game will take place at Kelly Shorts Stadium at 2 p.m.
